Executive Summary | Securing Our Future: 100 African & European Voices on Climate Change, Conflict and Security

Policy Briefing

Climate, Energy & Natural Resources

What do young Africans and Europeans see as the greatest threats to global security? How do they think governments and international institutions should work together to tackle these challenges and help secure our common future?

To hear what young people think, Debating Africa and Debating Europe, in partnership with the European Investment Bank, spoke to over 100 young people (aged 18-35) from both continents about their concerns. A series of online focus groups explored what should and could be done in response to these concerns, particularly by international financial institutions (IFIs).

Would young people from Africa and Europe have vastly different priorities? And would these differences be reflected among participants from different parts of the same continent?

To find out, Debating Europe has published the report’s executive summary, presenting the headline findings from the project. It is designed to complement the main report, to be launched at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) on 6-18 November 2022 – which goes into greater detail.
