Peace, Security & Defence
This week on Keeping an Eye on the Geopolitical Ball, Jamie Shea, Senior Fellow at Friends of Europe, reacts to the North Korean threats to launch four drones in South Korea and to the missile tests North Korea is performing regularly. He analyses the North Korean nuclear programme, especially their willingness to develop an intercontinental missile. Jamie Shea explains the reasons why Kim Jong Un is leading more and more provocative actions. One of those reasons could be that he seeks to put pressure on the UN to recognize North Korea as a legitimate nuclear weaponed State. He underlines the need for strengthened diplomacy to persuade Kim Jong Un to decrease this nuclear threat and details the need to build trust between North Korea and the USA to avoid further escalation.
