Peace, Security & Defence
This week on Keeping an Eye on the Geopolitical Ball, Jamie Shea, Senior Fellow at Friends of Europe, focuses on the first year of the war in Ukraine. Shea reminds us of the willingness of several counties to make “war irrational” after WWII through the establishment of international organisations supposed to make war impossible. He also notes that a peace agreement in Ukraine should respect some conditions, including the respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, in order for such peace agreement to resist time. Furthermore, he underlines the need to establish courts to judge war crimes that have occurred in Ukraine to settle and make judgments. Western technology transfer to Ukraine, like missiles and drones, is also brought up, as such measure would help Ukraine in its path to victory.
