About

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis, a few countries have stood out as shining examples of good practice – whether for social policies, stimulus packages or transparency and communication. Singapore has been one of them. A combination of quick reaction, quality healthcare systems, risk management and technology use allowed Singapore to quickly get the outbreak under control. This Strategic Conversation with Jaya Ratnam, Ambassador of Singapore to the European Union, will look at Singapore’s experiences and what they might mean for the rest of the world.

This new Strategic Conversations series invites key policymakers to share their views on a range of important and strategically relevant issues through interviews with senior thinkers on the Friends of Europe team.

Questions include:

  • How have past experiences with SARS and H1N1 led to a greater degree of preparedness in Singapore, and might Europe’s experience with COVID-19 lead to the same result for its readiness in the future?
  • What lessons can we all learn from each other while we are still in the early days of a long fight against this virus?
  • How will the situation affect EU-ASEAN relations going forward?
