About
Friends of Europe was delighted and proud to co-organise the presentation of the Report of the High-Level Group on the Future of Social Protection and of the Welfare State in the European Union alongside DIKTIO, Delphi Economic Forum and Metarithmisi.
The report was compiled by 11 prominent academics and researchers of the High-Level Group, under the presidency of Anna Diamantopoulou, following a proposal by Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit.
Global trends such as demographic changes, the radical transformation of the world of work due to technological advancement, as well as climate change and the green transition, directly affect the welfare state, family policies, work life and youth. The pages of the report describe the impact of these major trends that influence the future of social protection and the welfare state in the European Union and formulate strategic recommendations to EU member states. The report also analyses the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and the aggressive Russian actions against Ukraine and their consequences, such as the increasing challenge of energy poverty.
European Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit; Hellenic Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Adonis Georgiadis; Hellenic Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Sofia Zacharakis; and Friends of Europe’s Chief Spokesperson, Dharmendra Kanani were among the confirmed speakers of the event.
This event took place in Athens, Greece and was also made available to a wider audience via livestream. Follow us on Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram or Facebook, and join the #StateofEU!
