Taking place in Toulouse on 16 and 17 February 2022, the first European Space Summit will bring together top stakeholders from across Europe to discuss and decide on Europe’s role in space over the next ten years. The summit will look to establish Europe as a strategic leader in space, maximising the benefits of space for people, encouraging the growth of space SMEs and increasing its share of the world space markets. To discuss the outcomes of the summit and next steps, Friends of Europe will be joined by Eric Morel de Westgaver, Director of European, Legal & International Matters at the European Space Agency (ESA).

Chief Operating Officer and Chief Spokesperson of Friends of Europe
Prior to joining Friends of Europe, Dharmendra Kanani was director of policy at the European Foundation Centre (EFC). He was the England director at the Big Lottery Fund, the largest independent funder in the UK and fourth largest in the world. Dharmendra has held senior positions in the public and voluntary sector and advisor to numerous ministerial policy initiatives across the UK.

Director of European, Legal & International Matters at the European Space Agency (ESA)
Having worked at the European Space Agency since 1987, Eric Morel de Westgaver has held a number of positions at the organisation. In his current role as the Head of the European Space Agency’s headquarters in Paris, and the Director of European, Legal and International Matters, his Directorate provides the authoritative legal advice to the Director General, the Directorates, the Council and other organs of the ESA, to achieve the objectives set up in the ESA Convention, formulating legal opinions and bringing new ideas to formalise space policies and programmes in Europe.
