About

There is currently no formalised dialogue and cooperation between European research institutes focusing on research into strategic, political and economic dimensions of the Europe-India relation. Neither is there a long-term and formalised process for European research institutes and think-tanks to collectively advise policymakers on Europe-India relations.

To fill in this gap, Friends of Europe, the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI) and Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) will hold a by-invitation-only meeting of interested parties to discuss the potential of the Europe-India Research and Dialogue Network, aiming to facilitate the exchange of research and information, initiate joint research on specified topics, and hold reoccurring workshops and other forms of forums.

Europe’s relation to India is becoming increasingly important for individual member states and for the EU as a whole. The EU-India summits of 2016 and 2017 created momentum, and the EU is currently in the process of formulating a strategy for India. We also have the FTA negotiations, as well as deepening relationships between individual member states and India. Yet, there is no formalised dialogue and cooperation between European research institutes focusing on research into strategic, political and economic dimensions of the Europe-India relation. Neither is there a long-term and formalised process for European research institutes and think-tanks to collectively advise policymakers on Europe-India relations. Participants at this meeting will discuss how to organise the Europe-India Research and Dialogue Network, as well as its scope and procedures.
