Many Brussels think tanks and digital rights organizations are indeed choosing to keep their audience of tens of thousands of followers and stay on. Bruegel (74,100 followers) said it would evaluate its social media strategy in early 2024. ECIPE (9,600 followers), Egmont (11,800 followers) and Friends of Europe (43,400 followers) said they were not currently planning to leave because the social network was still useful for disseminating their research.

“Abandoning the channel a few months prior to European elections rather than offering a valid alternative source of information to citizens does not seem to us to be the best solution for combating disinformation,” said Dharmendra Kanani, chief spokesperson for Friends of Europe.
