About

The EU has gained a reputation in setting the tone when it comes to regulating the digital and sustainability spheres on matters as diverse as AI, cyber-security, data, digital services and markets, EU emissions trading systems, carbon markets, manufacturing of net-zero technological products and sustainability reporting standards. However, the EU lags behind on a number of indicators for its 2030 Digital Decade and Green Deal Agenda objectives.

Regarding its Digital Decade, for instance, the EU has only reached 47% out of the targeted 20mn employed ICT specialists and businesses’ take up of AI, big data and the cloud is only at 11%, 19% and 45%, respectively. At the same time, the EU needs to progress swiftly on a number of Green Deal files if it is to align its economy with net-zero emissions by 2050. From the decarbonisation of its transport and building sectors, to the reversal of biodiversity loss, there is significant work in sustainability policy for the incoming mandate to address.

In conversation with Friends of Europe’s Dharmendra Kanani, this #CriticalThinkingLive with Sapthagiri (Saptha) Chapalapalli, Head of the Tata Consultancy Services Europe, will bring an industry perspective for the next Commission’s priorities on digital transformation and sustainability and how the private sector can contribute to achieving the Digital Decade targets and the Green Deal agenda.
