On the cusp of a new era: global flows, energy and the supply cycle

The major oil shock of the early 1970s led to an energy crisis and negative supply shock, high levels of inflation, changes in monetary policy, geopolitical tensions and resource competition. These characteristics are on display again in 2023, as we find ourselves on the cusp of a new era. This #CriticalThinkingLive explores and discusses global flows, energy supplies and stockpiles, the changing size and roles of governments today, and the future of money and growth.

In this conversation with Friends of Europe’s Dharmendra Kanani and Sven Smit, Chair of the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) and Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company, we assess the complex and intertwined factors with an aim of building a map for a new era and understanding Europe’s role in it.
