We must acknowledge that the United Kingdom intends to leave the European Union, as well as all the consequences that this decision entails. The first consequence is that the settlement agreed on 19th February 2016 ceases to exists, as stated in the text.
The process of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union must absolutely be carried out within the framework and the timeframe laid out in the Treaties (article 50 TEU) in order to limit the number of uncertainties. The legitimate interests of other EU citizens, as well as those of the Union as a whole, must be duly respected during this negotiation.
Started in 1950, driven by Robert Schuman, without the United Kingdom, European construction continues.
The same is true of the single currency, which the United Kingdom is not part of. The euro is not concerned by the British referendum. The authorities of the euro area Member States, along with the ECB, will work to ensure the stability of the single currency and the economies of the countries who use it.
