Blueprint for a Debate: What is the European Union for?
This report is the logical successor to Friends of Europe's first paper in June 1999, "Blueprint for Reform". It aims to pick-up from that analysis of the options for reforming the EU's institutions, and its’ focus is how to structure a Europe-wide debate capable of capturing the interest and involvement of EU citizens.

Countdown to the Euro - How ready is Europe for the Single Currency?
One of the major themes to dominate the entire Roundtable was promoted by Edmond Alphandéry, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Caisse Nationale de Prévoyance (CNP) and Founder of the Euro 50 Group. Alphandéry believes that the occasion of the cash changeover should be treated as a grand opportunity to win voters over politically to the cause of greater European integration.

Getting the message across on behalf of the European Union is no easy task. Many obstacles stand in the way. These may be political, cultural or practical and reflect the difficulty of presenting a clear message against an increasingly complex EU background. Low birth rates and long life expectancy mean that the ability of the working population to sustain the retired is diminishing.
