Press desk

The media play a key role as a communications channel between the EU’s policymakers and the wider world. They help to keep stakeholders informed of the major issues facing Europe while at the same time raising awareness and understanding among citizens.

Friends of Europe’s activities are designed to attract and interest both specialists and generalists. We bring together a wide range of stakeholders, and are particularly successful at bringing member-state actors to Brussels. The speakers and discussants at our events are not the “usual suspects”, but are people who bring fresh new thinking to challenge conventional wisdom.

The innovative nature of our activities, and the messages that come out of them, are things that we aim to communicate as widely as possible, which is why national, European and international press and media are always involved in what we do.

Trustees speak out

John Monks: Europe – Some threats and a bright star
As one who believes that Europe’s nation states need to move closer together and on from their past, if they are to exert influence in the world, the current times are very worrying. The EU is under threat as never before, economically from the crisis and politically as the forces of nationalism grow stronger.
Michel Barnier: The Single Market 20 years on
Our Single Market will be 20 years old at the end of this year. This birthday is a chance for us to reflect on how far we have come, and especially to reflect on how far we have yet to go. What obstacles do we need to overcome to adapt the Single Market to the 21st century?
