2010 – the UN year of biodiversity – is a milestone year. Green Week 2010, organised by the European Commission’s DG Environment, will address the state of biodiversity and nature in Europe and the world. Green Week attracts over 4,000 participants from all over Europe. Friends of Europe’s European Policy Summit, entitled Pricing the Earth: How business can protect and profit from biodiversity, will consist of three sessions focusing on the role and responsibility of European, national, and regional policymakers in raising awareness of the link between resource use and the economy. The initiative will be an important one in the field of biodiversity ahead of the Nagoya meeting at the end of the year. Several recent studies have indicated that the economic value of protecting and restoring biodiversity and the Earth’s ecosystems is very high. It has therefore become not only an environmental issue but an economic challenge. Pavan Sukhdev, Karl Falkenberg, Sandrine Bélier MEP, and Andrew Simms, will be among some of the speakers addressing the conference.
