The future of oil: how realistic is a post-oil society?

The European Union’s radical plan to cut its domestic CO2 emissions by 80-95% by the middle of this century set the context for a roundtable discussion on “How realistic is a post-oil society” organised by Friends of Europe on 15 June 2011 at the Bibliotheque Solvay in Brussels. Senior EU policy makers, industry representatives, academics, NGO and think tank leaders discussed if and how Europe can break its unhealthy dependence on oil and what the costs of such a shift might be.
