What can the world expect of the new EU-U.S. development cooperation?

03/05/2011 A paradigm shift in United States development policy has paved the way for much deeper coordination with the European Union, our ”Meet the policymakers” debate heard on 5 April 2011. The decision made in Washington in 2009 to “reinvigorate” the development dialogue between the two was spurred by a desire to “improve the quality and effectiveness” of development assistance in light of the 2015 deadline for meeting many of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). And, since then, USAID Deputy Administrator Donald K. Steinberg has witnessed what he describes as the “single most fundamental shift” in U.S. development policy in his lifetime.
