LiveWell for low impact food in Europe: Eating our way to a healthy planet

The food we eat is at the heart of many key health and environmental issues.

With the food sector estimated to account for 20-30% of the total environmental impact of EU consumption and production, how can we reduce the pressure that food exerts on the environment? And with the average European citizen eating almost 3,500 calories daily – 1,000 calories more than recommended – how can we stop the rising epidemic of diseases such as obesity or diabetes?

These questions are at the core of the already urgent issue of how to ensure the necessary resources for feeding a rapidly rising world population: tackling demand or increasing production?

LiveWell for low impact food in Europe (LIFE) is a pioneering EU funded project that introduces the concept of a healthy and sustainable diet - a diet which can bring significant health benefits to EU citizens and contribute towards the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from the EU food supply chain.

Join representatives of WWF, national and European institutions, businesses, industry and academia for a lively debate on how can we pave the way towards environmental friendly, health focused diets in Europe.
