European Policy Summit
Water Security: Does Europe Have a Strategy?
Thursday, June 07, 2007 - Brussels, Bibliothèque Solvay

Co-organised by Friends of Europe and the European Water Partnership

With the support of the Water Supply and Sanitation Technology Platform (WSSTP), the Co-operative Programme on Water and Climate and Dow Europe

The growing pressure on water resources, due to economic growth and climate change, gives rise to important policy questions regarding the provision of sufficient clean water to meet population’s needs. At the same time, many sectors such as agriculture, industry and power generation are faced with water supply constraints. What policy can be effective in managing the overwhelming demand for water? How can investments be channelled into the water sector to scale-up infrastructures and deploy more efficient water technologies? Is water policy being adequately integrated into the EU’s policies for addressing energy, climate change and other global environmental challenges?

For the second time, some 200 EU and national policymakers, business leaders, NGO representatives, academia and members of the international press will be gathering together for Brussels' foremost water policy event.

Keynote address will be given by Stavros Dimas, EU Commissioner for Environment.
